Masjid Raya Baiturrahman

General Information

For those who want to seek for a place that contains high valuable history for the people of Aceh and among Indonesian people respectively in Aceh, Masjid Raya Baiturrahman is considered for one of those place. Since it was originally built on the first hand by Sultan Iskandar Muda in 1612 until now Masjid Raya Baiturrahman is still exists in the center of Banda Aceh.

Design and Architecture

This Masjid is originally designed by a Dutch Architect named Gerrit Bruins. Later on, the design is adapted by L.P. Luijks whom is monitoring construction work done by a contractor named Lie A Sie. The chosen design is the Mughal Resurrection style which is identified by a specific characteristic of large dome with many towers. The black dome is uniquely built from hardwood shingles joined into tiles.
